Many people wonder whether their Wi-Fi router “remembers” what they search for and whether they can delete it. The honest answer is that some routers keep limited logs, most can’t see the content of secure traffic and several other places (browser, Google account, internet provider) hold history that deleting router logs doesn’t touch. This guide explains what a router can and can’t see and how to clear what you can.
What Is Router History?
Logs a router may keep about connections, DNS lookups, devices and security events. Not every router records detailed browsing history.
Does the Router Show Google Searches?

With HTTPS the full text of what you search on Google usually can’t be seen by the router. It may see that a connection to Google’s domain was made.
Where Can Internet History Be Stored?
On the router, in the browser, in your Google or other accounts, on the device’s DNS cache, with your internet service provider and in parental-control or cloud tools linked to the router.
Browser History vs. Router History
Browser history is stored on your device and visible to anyone using it. Router history is kept (if at all) by the router and may show domains visited, not page contents.
How to Delete Router History
Log In to the Router Interface
Find the router address (the default gateway):
- Windows: check the network connection details or use the command line.
- macOS: look in network settings.
- Android and iPhone: look at the Wi-Fi network details.
Find the admin password on the router label or from your provider. If it is still the default, change it. For strong passwords, see our password generator (Turkish interface).
Clear What You Find
- System logs.
- Traffic analysis records.
- DNS records.
- Parental control records. See Google Family Link.
- URL filtering records.
- Connected device history.
- Cloud-based router records (in the manufacturer’s or provider’s app).
Does Restarting Clear History?
It may clear temporary RAM and DNS records only. Permanent and cloud records may remain.
Does a Factory Reset?
It can erase local router settings and most logs, but not your internet provider’s, browser’s or account records. A factory reset can also erase your internet username and password, IPTV and phone settings, so you may need to set it up again.
| Method | What it clears | What remains |
|---|---|---|
| Delete logs in the panel | Local router logs | Provider, browser and account records |
| Restart | Temporary RAM and DNS entries | Permanent and cloud records |
| Factory reset | Local settings and most logs | Provider, browser, account records |
Clearing Other History
- Browser history: clear it in the browser’s settings.
- Does incognito mode block router history? No. It only limits history on your device; the router and your provider can still see the connection.
- Google search history: clear it in your Google account. See Google One and how to delete a Google account.
- Device DNS cache: clear it on Windows, macOS, Android or iPhone using the system’s network tools.
Can the Internet Provider’s History Be Deleted?
Not by you. Providers keep records under their own policies and legal requirements.
Does a VPN Hide Router History?
A VPN encrypts traffic so the router and provider see the VPN connection, not the sites inside it, but the VPN provider can see more. Choose carefully.
Does Encrypted DNS Improve Privacy?
It hides DNS lookups from the local network, but not the fact that you connect to an IP address.
Tips to Keep Wi-Fi Private
- Change the router admin password.
- Disable logging if your router allows.
- Keep firmware updated.
- Use a strong Wi-Fi password and WPA3/WPA2.
- Review connected devices.
- Be aware that end-to-end encryption protects message content but not all metadata.

With HTTPS, the full search sentence usually can’t be seen by the router; it may see the connection to Google’s domain.
Can sites I visit be seen?
Depending on the router model and DNS, some domain names may be visible. With HTTPS the full page path and content are usually not.
How do I view router history?
Check the System Log, Security, Traffic Analysis, DNS or Parental Control sections in the router panel.
How do I delete it?
Log in to the router and clear logs, traffic analysis, parental control and DNS records.
Does restarting the router clear history?
Only temporary RAM and DNS records. Permanent and cloud records may remain.
