When a patient looks for a new doctor, they usually do the same thing: they type into Google, look at the first results and the profiles on the map, read a few reviews and pick the option that inspires the most trust. If your practice’s site does not appear on this journey, or appears but does not clearly say who the doctor is, what they work on and how to book an appointment, the patient moves on to the next result.
SEO for doctors differs from other sectors in two ways. First, in Turkey open or covert advertising of healthcare services is prohibited, so organic visibility comes to the front in place of paid channels. Second, Google looks at health-related content more strictly; trust signals are a precondition that comes before ranking. In this article we give a twelve-point checklist that can be applied to a practice or clinic website: what each item is for, how to check it and where to be careful. The list does not promise a ranking or a number of patients; it only lets you see what is missing.
How Does Doctor SEO Differ From Advertising?

The promotion of healthcare services is limited by regulation in Turkey. This means that paid channels such as Google Ads or social media ads cannot be used by doctors and clinics. SEO is not advertising: it rests on presenting the address, contact details, working hours, areas of expertise, professional titles and informative content of a health-protecting nature in a correct and accessible way. We explained in detail which wording counts as information and which could count as advertising in our guide to social media management in the healthcare sector. Compliance with regulation is the responsibility of the doctor and the clinic; we do not provide legal advice, and in doubtful cases we recommend that you apply to your professional chamber and your legal adviser.
The second difference is about trust. Google evaluates topics that could affect a user’s life, such as health, under “YMYL” and looks more closely at who wrote the content and on what knowledge. We described this approach in how to ensure E-E-A-T on health websites; many items in the list below are applications of this principle.
The third difference is how the patient searches. A patient sometimes searches by location (“cardiologist near me”), sometimes by treatment (“exercises after knee replacement”) and sometimes directly by the doctor’s name. Your site needs an address for all three intents. For the general picture of patient search behavior, you can look at how to find doctors and clinics on Google.
The Foundation: Structure, Speed and Consistent Information

The first three items are the skeleton of the site. If they are missing, efficiency falls however good the content is.
1. A separate page for each topic, a single topic for each page. Instead of covering all treatments in a few sentences on the home page, build a separate page for each main treatment or disease group. Give the page a single H1 heading, and let the subheadings answer questions. The home page should quickly answer three questions: who is the doctor, where and on what do they work, and how do you book an appointment?
2. Mobile compatibility and speed. Most health searches are made from a phone and the patient is often in a hurry. The appointment button should be visible on the first screen, the page should open in a few seconds and the text should be comfortable to read on a phone. We listed what to look at on a phone in 12 points in how to test a mobile-friendly website, and gathered the fixes that raise speed in speeding up your website.
3. The same name, address and phone everywhere. The name, address, phone and working hours of your practice must be written identically on the site, in your Google Business Profile and in any other directories. Inconsistent information both misleads the patient and makes it harder for the search engine to match the business correctly. Also check that the site opens over a secure connection (https) and that contact details appear at the bottom of every page.
Doctor Profiles and Treatment Pages

Trust in healthcare depends on a person. The patient thinks they will be in contact not with you but with the doctor; that is why the following four items are the center of the content side.
4. A detailed doctor profile page. A real photo, education, area of expertise, institutions worked at, memberships and verifiable publications. Write titles in line with regulation and use no statement that cannot be verified. Having a separate page for each doctor also helps the doctor’s name stand out in patient searches.
5. Treatment and disease information pages. Answer the questions in the patient’s mind in order: what is this condition, for which symptoms should one see a doctor, how is the assessment done, how does the treatment process go, what are the recovery and follow-up periods like? Use plain language; a page written at a patient health-literacy level is read more than a page full of specialist terms. State on every page that the information is general and that a personal assessment needs an examination.
6. Author, reviewing doctor and update date. Show who prepared the content and which doctor reviewed it; write the last update date of the page. Medical knowledge changes over time, and a page written years ago and never updated looks out of date to both the patient and Google. If you can cite sources (guidelines, peer-reviewed articles), list them at the end of the text.
7. Frequently asked questions and structured data. Move the questions patients keep asking on the phone onto the page. In schema.org there are types such as Physician and MedicalClinic; markup that matches the information visible on the page exactly can be added. But do not expect markup to bring rich results: Google shows rich results such as FAQ to a limited number of organizations, and markup never replaces content.
Google Business Profile and Local Visibility

Being visible in local searches and on the map is one of the most direct patient channels for a doctor. The eighth and ninth items are devoted to this.
8. A complete and current Google Business Profile. The right primary category (for example cardiologist or orthopedic doctor) and, if needed, additional categories, address, phone, current working hours, services offered, photos of the practice (waiting area, entrance, signage) and the appointment link. Make sure the appointment link goes directly to the appointment page. Patient photos and before/after images should not be used on the profile either. For a step-by-step check see the Google Business Profile optimization checklist, and if there is no profile yet, see what is a Google Business Profile.
9. A clear structure if there are several doctors or branches. In a clinic with several doctors, build a separate page for each doctor and a separate location page for each branch, and keep the information consistent. The rules for opening profiles for more than one doctor at the same address are subject to Google’s profile guidelines; read the current guidelines before opening one. We covered the local SEO logic of multi-branch structures in our patient search behavior article.
The Appointment Flow: Turning Visitors Into Patients
10. An easy, short and safe way to book. The phone number should be callable with a single tap (a tel: link), WhatsApp or an appointment form should be visible, and working hours and the expected reply time should be written. Keep the form short: name, phone, preferred time and a short note are enough. Do not ask for the details of the complaint or the medical history in the form; health data is special-category personal data, and collecting it requires a privacy notice and the necessary consents, so clarify this with your legal adviser. To see where phone and WhatsApp clicks come from, see call tracking, and for how to improve the appointment page, see conversion rate optimization.
Putting an automatic welcome sentence on messages that arrive outside office hours is also a small but effective improvement: a sentence like “We received your message and will reply during office hours” stops the patient from going to another door.
Reviews and Trust Signals
11. Real reviews, regular replies. The only right way to collect reviews is to remind the patient politely, without any conditions, that they can write one. Buying reviews or offering a discount in return violates both platform rules and ethical principles. When replying to reviews, do not disclose the patient’s identity or treatment details; write calm, general replies that protect privacy, such as “Thank you for your feedback, you are welcome to contact us”. For methods, see how to get more Google reviews and how to reply to Google reviews.
Featuring reviews on your own site or social media is a separate regulatory matter in healthcare. Check whether patient reviews can be shared before you publish them.
What Should You Not Write? Regulatory Limits
12. Stay away from wording and images that could count as advertising. The following are generally risky; the final ruling is always set by the relevant regulation and your professional chamber:
- Emphasis on price, campaign and discount language.
- Exaggerated and result-promising statements such as “the best”, “guaranteed result” and “painless”.
- Comparison with other doctors or clinics.
- Patient photos and before/after treatment images.
- Any content that could reveal a patient’s identity.
A text published without knowing the line between information and advertising creates a legal problem before it creates a ranking. That is why you should have every new page reviewed by the doctor and, if needed, by a legal adviser before publishing. As we exemplified how these limits apply in dentistry in digital marketing and SEO for dentists, we also have separate guides for physiotherapy centers and pharmacies: physiotherapy and rehabilitation centers, pharmacies.
Measurement: Which Numbers Should You Watch?
Applying the checklist is not enough; you need to see what works. Four data sources are enough for a practice:
- Search Console: For which queries, with which pages and at which position do you appear? Track queries containing the doctor’s name, the treatment name and the location separately.
- Google Business Profile performance: How many times the profile was viewed, and the number of searches, direction requests and website clicks.
- Phone, WhatsApp and form events: Which page and which source produce contact?
- Appointment numbers on the clinic side: How many of the incoming requests turned into a real appointment? You keep this data and it is added to the report.
Pay attention to patient privacy in measurement: personal information such as name, phone or complaint must not go into page addresses or analytics tools.
The two doctor cases we have published can serve as an example of how to read the numbers. On a cardiologist’s site, according to Search Console data, organic clicks rose from 13 to 475 in the last 3 months compared with the previous 3 months; but the starting value was very low and the average click-through rate fell. On an orthopedic doctor’s site, in a 6-month comparison, clicks rose from about 2.83 thousand to 13.1 thousand. You can read the details in the cardiologist case and the orthopedic doctor case. Both are the result of a single site; we are not saying that your result will be the same.
The 12-Point Doctor SEO Checklist
- Every main treatment or disease group has its own page; the home page shows the doctor, the location and the way to book right away.
- The site opens fast on a phone; the appointment button is on the first screen.
- The name, address, phone and working hours are the same on the site and on the Google profile.
- Every doctor has a profile page prepared with a real photo and verifiable information.
- Treatment and disease pages are written in plain language, around the patient’s questions.
- Pages show the author or reviewing doctor and the last update date.
- There are frequently asked questions; any structured data matches the visible content.
- The Google Business Profile is complete, the category is right and the appointment link goes straight to the page.
- In a multi-doctor or multi-branch structure, every doctor and branch has a separate, consistent page.
- Phone, WhatsApp and form are easy; the form asks for no health data and there is a privacy notice.
- Reviews are real, replies protect privacy; no reviews are bought.
- The site has no emphasis on price, exaggerated promises, comparisons or patient images; texts are checked before publication.
When Do Results Show Up?
SEO is a long-term effort, and it would not be right to give an exact time. Varying with competition, the state of the current site and the scope of the work, the first developments can generally be observed within a few months. Google Business Profile fixes usually show up faster; content and trust work on the site builds up over months. Newly published pages in healthcare also take time to gain trust. So in the first months the measurement setup and the foundation fixes should be the priority, and the expectation of results should be managed with patience.
What Does Soft Ajans Do in Doctor and Clinic SEO?
In our SEO consulting service for doctors and clinics we first examine the technical structure, content state and Google Business Profile information of the current site. Then we evaluate the phrases patients use when searching within a framework that is informative and compliant with regulation, organize the Google Business Profile, plan a trustworthy content structure (YMYL compliance), improve the site’s mobile compatibility and speed, make sure the appointment and contact steps are easy, and report organic traffic and profile performance regularly.
Texts that need medical accuracy are prepared according to the information you or your team provide and go through your approval; we do not give a guarantee of ranking or number of patients. The price is set specifically for the project, based on the size of the practice or clinic, the number of branches, the state of the current site and the scope of work. Frequently Asked Questions
If doctors cannot advertise, why is SEO so important?
Because open or covert advertising of healthcare services is prohibited in Turkey, paid channels such as Google Ads and social media ads cannot be used. SEO is a method based on organic visibility rather than advertising, and so it becomes one of the most important digital ways of reaching patients. Compliance with regulation remains the responsibility of the doctor and the clinic.
Is my own site enough for a practice, or should I only open a Google profile?
The two do not replace each other. The Google profile makes you visible on the map and in local search; the site explains the doctor, the treatments and the trust in detail. Most patients move from the profile to the site, and if the site does not inspire trust they do not book. The information on both must match exactly.
Can I write treatment prices on my site?
Emphasis on price in healthcare can count as advertising and is a risky area. The final ruling is set by the relevant regulation and your professional chamber; consult your legal adviser and your chamber before publishing. You can explain the process and the appointment steps clearly without writing prices.
Can I show patient reviews on my site?
This is a separate regulatory matter in healthcare. Although reviews on Google are public, featuring them on your own site or social media can count as advertising. Check the rules before publishing, do not buy reviews and protect the patient’s privacy.
Can a small single-doctor practice compete with large clinics?
Yes, especially in local and treatment-based searches. A clear area of expertise, a detailed doctor profile, a correct Google profile, real reviews and a fast way to book can make a small practice stand out. A ranking cannot be guaranteed, but a reliable and complete site helps close the gap with large clinics.
How long should I give an SEO effort before judging it?
Evaluate a period of at least a few months together. In the first months, focus on the measurement setup, the foundation fixes and completing the Google profile; the rise in queries and impressions in Search Console, profile views and contact events are the first signs of results.
